DESCRIPTION:Region 2 South will host a Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) course on February 7\, 2019.  BDLS is a comprehensive\, nationally-standardized family of all-hazards training programs developed by the National Disaster Life Support (NDLS) consortium of academic\, state and federal centers. \nThis six-hour didactic course is designed to develop commonality of approach and language and to improve the care and coordination of response in WMD disaster and public health emergencies. The curriculum includes an overview of the “D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R” paradigm\, injuries and responses associated with different types of disasters\, an overview of the public health system and the psychosocial aspects of disasters. \nBDLS is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS) – the next course in the NDLS training program. Region 2 South is pleased to announce that we will host one ADLS course in BP1S 2018-2019 as a regional initiative. Information will be distributed once registration opens for the course. \nThis is a reminder for those of you who have taken this course in previous years\, the BDLS certification is valid for 3 years. If you have taken this course prior to 2016\, this is a good opportunity to renew an expired certification. \nWhen: \nThursday\, February 7\, 2019. The course will be conducted from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.\n*   Please plan to arrive around 10:45 a.m. to sign-in and receive course materials.\n*   Lunch will be a “working lunch” at the first break\, which will be around 1:00 p.m.\nWhere:\nThe BDLS course will be conducted at Wayne County Community College Downriver College Campus in Taylor:  21000 Northline Road  Taylor\, MI 48180 in the Ray Mix room. \nPlease note that this course is being offered free of cost to Region 2 South members and neighboring emergency preparedness partners. DESCRIPTION:The Oakland County Homeland Security Division is offering a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Seminar for healthcare professionals on March 18\, 2019. The 2-hour training will provide leadership and employees with current U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidance and tips from trained law enforcement professionals. This program has been expanded upon to include the latest research from Texas State University / Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program. The focus of this training is to increase awareness and survival skills. DESCRIPTION:The Basic Disaster Life Support™ (BDLS®) course is a five hour competency-based\, awareness-level course that introduces concepts and principles to prepare health professionals for the management of injuries and illnesses caused by disasters and public health emergencies. The course builds upon\, applies\, and reinforces information presented in the Core Disaster Life Support® (CDLS®) course. This includes application of core principles and concepts in emergency management and public health as introduced in the CDLS course through the PRE-DISASTER Paradigm™ and DISASTER Paradigm™. The primary focus of the BDLS course is incorporation of an “all-hazards” approach to mass casualty management and population-based care across a broad range of disasters. Measures to ensure and enhance health workforce readiness are emphasized throughout the course. This includes a consistent and scalable approach to workforce protection and casualty management\, as well as\, mass casualty triage and fatality management. \nThe Region 2 North Hosted and Funded Course is on March 21\, 2019\, at the Macomb Intermediate School District\, 44001 Garfield Road\, Clinton Township\, MI 48038\, in the Superior Room (enter from the North side of the building).
