DESCRIPTION:Region 2 South is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring our fifth annual conference/training for chaplains\, clergy\, and religious leaders this December!  Registration is now open for the Region 2 South Disaster Spiritual Care Fundamentals Course that will be conducted on December 5\, 2017. \nSpeaker Information:  For the fourth year in a row\, Region 2 South would like to welcome Rev. Dr. Naomi Paget\, Chaplain and Crisis Interventionist back to Region 2 South as the guest speaker.  Dr. Paget is a Board Certified Chaplain with the FBI and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization and has been an instructor in Disaster Spiritual Care for many years. \nDr. Paget’s contribution to the fields of crisis management and traumatic stress is rooted in her theological and clinical education in the areas of crisis chaplaincy and psychotrauma intervention. Her doctoral project centered on creating a training program to prepare community clergy and laity to provide appropriate psychological first aid during and after critical events. She has also completed training in numerous crisis intervention courses\, including critical incident stress management for individuals and groups\, suicide intervention\, traumatic stress\, grief after crisis\, crisis intervention for children\, pastoral crisis intervention\, and response to aviation incidents. She has earned certification in disaster psychology\, as a grief and loss counselor\, as a mass prophylaxis distribution coordinator\, and other crisis related certificates. she continues to seek training and education in the field of crisis and trauma through national conferences and seminars. \nHer clinical practice today\, as a chaplain and crisis interventionist for the FBI and for disaster relief organizations such as the American Red Cross\, The Salvation Army\, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief\, provides many opportunities to work with people in times of crisis over a broad spectrum of events\, situations\, and agencies. \nMany years of clinical experience have given her experiential knowledge informing the academic knowledge gained in formal education. She has worked with victims of various major natural disasters (China earthquakes\, Hurricane Katrina\, San Diego wildfires)\, worked with victims of terrorism and other homicides (9/11\, Shanksville\, Columbine)\, and worked with victims of individual and community crisis (multi-car accidents\, arson\, murder). Experience and a recognized level of expertise have created a demand for my services\, consultation\, and deployment with national relief organizations\, the military\, and academia. DESCRIPTION:Our next Long Term Care Workgroup Meeting will take place on Friday\, January 26\, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) Building. This is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Region 2 North Healthcare Coalition Long Term Care Workgroup. We will have several presenters discussing the Oakland County Water Emergency that took place in October 2017. We will review the time line and hear from four facilities that were impacted in different ways. There should be plenty of take-aways to better prepare you to experience something similar. \nIn addition\, we have the results of the Regional HVA that was conducted in December. SUMMARY:R2S Basic Disaster Life Support Course
DESCRIPTION:This six-hour didactic course is designed to develop commonality of approach and language and to improve the care and coordination of response in WMD disaster and public health emergencies. The curriculum includes an overview of the “D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R” paradigm\, injuries and responses associated with different types of disasters\, an overview of the public health system and the psychosocial aspects of disasters. \nBDLS is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS) – the next course in the NDLS training program. \nThis is a reminder for those of you who have taken this course in previous years\, the BDLS certification is valid for 3 years. If you have taken this course prior to 2015\, this is a good opportunity to renew an expired certification. \nWhen: \nRegion 2 South is hosting the second of three BDLS courses for BP1 2017-2018 on Thursday\, February 1\, 2018. The course will be conducted from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n\nPlease plan to arrive around 10:45 a.m. to sign-in and receive course materials.\nLunch will be a “working lunch” at the first break\, which will be around 1:00 p.m.\n\nWhere: \nThe BDLS course will be conducted at Wayne County Community College Downriver College Campus in Taylor:  21000 Northline Road  Taylor\, MI 48180 in the Ray Mix room. \nPlease note that this course is being offered free of cost to Region 2 South members and neighboring emergency preparedness partners. Following the completion of these activities\, students who pass the course will then be able to print their own certificate directly from the site.  Region 2 South will not be able to provide any certificates for this course – you can only receive them from the website. \nNursing\, physician\, and EMS credits are available for this course. \n
